Justice Br Gavai trust the 52nd cji of india: Justice BR Gawai has taken oath as the 52nd Chief Justice (CJI) of the country. Today President Draupadi Murmu administered him the oath of office and secrecy. This moment is important not only for the Indian judiciary, but also for social justice, as Justice Gawai is the first person from the Scheduled Caste community after KG Balakrishnan, the first Buddhist and Justice to hold the post. Justice BR Gawai replaced Justice Sanjeev Khanna whose term was completed. Justice Gawai’s term will be relatively small, as he is to retire on November 23, 2025.
The swearing -in ceremony of CJI Justice Gawai was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former President Ram Nath Kovind and other dignitaries.
Who is Justice BR Gawai?
Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai was born on 24 November 1960 in Amravati, Maharashtra. He registered as a lawyer on 16 March 1985. In his early stages, he worked with former Advocate General and High Court Judge late King S Bhonsle. He started independent practice in the Bombay High Court in 1987.
Justice Gawai was appointed as Assistant Government Advocate and Additional Public Prosecutor in the Bombay High Court, Nagpur bench in August 1992. In January 2000, he became a government lawyer and public prosecutor. In November 2003, he was promoted as additional judges of the Bombay High Court. On 12 November 2005, he became a permanent judge. During his tenure, he presided over the backs in Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Panaji and handled matters in all areas.
