On behalf of the Department of Military Affairs, Major General GS Chaudhary said that, the President has approved Neeraj Chopra to give an honorary degree of Lieutenant Colonel from 16 April 2025 under the Territorial Army Rules 1948. This honor has been given to him under the government order of 9 May 2025 along with the address of his village Khandra, Panipat (Haryana). Neeraj Chopra held the post of Naib Subedar on 26 August 2016 as a Junior Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army.

Neeraj Chopra won the first gold medal for India at the track and field event at the Tokyo Olympics. However, he won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
