OnePlus Buds Z2 Design
OnePlus may have started with the popular ‘Outer Year Fit’ of Original Apple AirPods, but the company is now making ‘in-age fit’ products with active noise cancellation after that. The design of OnePlus Buds Z2 has also been designed in such a way that active noise cancellations get more and more. In order to enable the elders to fit comfortably in the ears, three pares of silicone year tips have been given in the box, with small USB Type-C charging cables.
If you look at OnePlus Buds Z, there has been no significant change in the design of OnePlus Buds Z2. The earpiece and charging cases look the same. There is a difference in the new model that a grill cover has been given on inner microphone for active noise cancellation. The second big change is color. OnePlus Buds Z2 gets the option of black and white color, which was not in OnePlus Buds Z.
I liked the all-black color of my review unit. However, the glossy finish of the device quickly holds fingers, so the earpiece and the case need to be cleaned again and again. Charging ports and piercing buttons are present on the back side of the case. OnePlus logo is given on the top of the lid and an indicator light is present at the front.
The case is not very big and is easily fit in the pocket. The case is given an IPX4 water rasistance rating, while the iP55 dust and water rasistance ratings are available with the earpiece. Each earpiece weighs 4.5 grams and both have three microphones, which are of ANC and voice pickups.
The outer side of the earpiece is touch-sensitive to control the playback. These can be customized through Bluetooth settings on OnePlus smartphone or through the heymelody app. Through this you can control music playback, switch between ANC and transparency mode, turn on the voice assistant on smartphones and switch between the last two devices paired using different gestures.
If you use OnePlus Buds Z2 with OnePlus smartphone, then all these settings and customization are easily found in Bluetooth settings. In this, you can check the existing level of the battery of earpiece and charging case. You can switch between two ANC mode given – Normal and Max. Also, active Bluetooth can select codec, can switch between the music to play and poses, do early tests and also update the firmwear of earphones.
This customization menu on OnePlus smartphone is quite easy and fast to use. But if you do not have a OnePlus smartphone, you can also customization through the heymelody app (available on iOS and Android). However, the app will get a little less smoothness in the app, but it works well with Buds Z2. The disappointing thing here is that you cannot customize the equipment through the app or through the settings of OnePlus smartphone.
For Android smartphones, it has supported Google Fast Pair. Dolby Atmos and Gaming Mode (94MS Lets) only work on OnePlus 7 and a few subsequent smartphones. Earphones have 11mm dynamic drivers. These include a 20,000Hz frequency response range and has a Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity equipped with SBC and AAC Bluetooth codec.
The battery of OnePlus Buds Z2 is quite good according to this price segment. Earpiece on 60 percent volume with ANC mode gives backup for 4 hours 30 minutes. With the help of a charging case, it can be fully charged 4 times, that is, the total battery life turns 23 hours. Fast charging options have not been given, but a 10 -minute charge has been claimed to have a 5 -hour playback time.
Punchy sound, good activity noise cancellation on the OnePlus Buds Z2
In its True Wireless earphones segment, OnePlus has moved beyond a very slow pace. The company has launched the counting earphones and is the winner of the OnePlus Buds Pro priced at Rs 9,990. OnePlus Buds Z2 comes at half its price, but just like expensive headset, it has a feature common, and that is its active noise cancellation. Buds Z2 performed the same as I expected in the region.
OnePlus Buds does not depend on the performance device of Z2, that is, which smartphone you are connecting to it does not make much difference. With the help of SBC and AAC Bluetooth codec I OnePlus 9 Perved these earphones with Dolby Atmos and low-altency mode. OnePlus Buds Z2 are quite loud and are capable of maintaining pace with fasting pace music besides punching sound. If I compare other headsets of this price range, they feel re-emerged with the base, which is not found in the rest. New Buds offer quite refined sounds compared to the rough and finesless sound of OnePlus Buds.
Dolby Atmos and low-altancy mode did a good job when used with OnePlus 9. ATMOS is designed for slightly open and ari sound compared to the high resolution sound of Apple Music. Low-altancy mode became activated as soon as the pro gaming mode was started on OnePlus smartphone. It managed to give better latency.
Active Nois Cancellation is found only in very selected True wireless earphones priced below Rs 5,000, but OnePlus has done a good job in this area. Although compared to expensive earphones such as OnePlus Buds Pro and Nothing Ear 1, there was a slight difference in it, but still in terms of price I felt better than other earphones used by me in this price range.
There are two modes for ANC (active noise cancellation)- Normal and Max. I did not know any much difference between these two. However, after activating them, there was a significant decrease in the noise hearing in indoor and outdoor while listening to music, audiobooks and calls.
In the transparency mode, I was able to hear the surrounding voices easily, but my own voice was heard very raised and strange. In such a situation, while talking to someone, it was a better option to remove the earphones from the ear. The call quality and connection stability of the device is quite good. No stability problem was felt in earphones even at a distance of up to 4 meters from a device.
Verdict
OnePlus may take a long time to step into the True Wireless segment, but due to its recent products it leaves a big impression in this segment. OnePlus Buds Z2 also appears to be moving forward in this trend and offers a very effective sound experience as well as ANC and some work features, including fast charging and dolby ATMOS support. However, to make a lot of use, you have to use them with recently launched OnePlus smartphones. If you have other Android smartphones or iPhone, then OnePlus Buds Z2 TWS is a very good option in a price less than Rs 5,000.
Realme also offers similar features in this price segment, but the quality of OnePlus gives a tough competition to the rest in this segment. I did not see any special shortage in the device. If you have a tight budget of 5 thousand rupees, then you can definitely buy them, but I think you can also buy Nothing Ear 1 or Jabra Elite 75T by spending a little money and, which is a better option than this.
