Oppo Pad Air has been launched by the company as the first tablet in India. In the tab, the company has focused on its build quality. At a glance, the tab offers all things, with a style that a user can expect. But is it enough to fight in competition? I used this tablet for a few weeks and read what I have about it, read here.
Oppo Pad Air Price in India
Oppo Pad Air comes under two configuration in India. The base variant that came to me comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and can be purchased for Rs 16,999. The second variant comes with 128GB storage but RAM is 4GB. Its price is Rs 19,999. The tab can only be purchased in gray color.
Oppo pad air design
Despite the budget tablet, it seems more premium. The texture is quite solid and it seems to be seen to some extent to bear the splashes of water. It gets a metal case with a unibody design, which has andged finish and does not even slip by hand. Its sides are flats and corner round shape. Its build quality devoid of sharp or rough edges seems to be quite affected.
Oppo Pad Air is quite light 440 grams in weight. It is quite easy for one hand use, but you will need both hands to operate. If something has come out of the body, then it does not lift the tab even after putting it on its rear camera, but on the flat surface. The back has a plastic strip which is spread over a quarter of it and has a good looking wave pattern. Perhaps it also helps in receiving signal for connectivity.
Power and volume control are found on the top left corner when caught in a horizontal manner. A pull out tray is also provided in the peak but it is only for the support of micro SD card.
Talking about the tab’s display, it has thin bezels and round cutouts on the corner that coincide with the twist of the tablet. Speaker grills are found on the side and USB Type C port is given in the right side. The company gives a single accessory with the tab called Oppo Life Smart Stylus Pen. It can be purchased by spending Rs 3,999.
Oppo Pad Air’s Specifications & Software
In this device, the company has used Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chip which is made of 6Nm fabrication process. In the tab, you get 4GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. It also has an expandable RAM feature so that storage space can be used as RAM.
For connectivity, it has Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 but does not have GPS. However, basic sensors such as accelerometer, ambient light and gyroscope are found. Its battery is 7,100mAh with 18W PD charger in the package itself. It does not have support for LTE and does not have a fingerprint scanner. It has a 2D face unlock which does not perform well every time. Apart from two storage options, the tab also provides support for microSD card up to 512GB.
It runs on the Coloros 12.1 of Oppo which is based on Android 12. On seeing this, it looks the same as the Coloros 12.1 found in the smartphone. It seems a bit surprising here that OPO has kept live wallpapers in addition to many static wallpapers, which look very good, but it felt a little heavy to handle them for the system.
There have also been a lot of options for customization, including auto theme engines. This version of the color OS takes 14GB of storage from the internal space of the tab, after which the space, games and photos get close to 47GB of space. The only third party app was present in the tab as Netflix.
In the Settings app, I found a floating window feature under the name of Flexible Window under special features. With its help, I was able to open the supported apps in a small floating window and I could also change its size. This smoke was going on, but with the full screen app running in the background, you can open only a small app in the floating window. It also had a split screen option in the name of dual window but I was not able to adjust its size according to my need.
Oppo pad air performance
Oppo pad air performed well. Some light legs were also found. Multi tasking was not very good but with the help of expandable RAM, I was able to keep some apps open in the background. To say directly, every fourth app was being restarted on reopening, but the load was also getting quick.
Talking about benchmark scores, the tab scored 2,53,080 points on AnTuTu. Scored 384 and 1,618 points respectively in Geekbench’s single and multicor tests. In GFXBench, it scored T-Rex, Manhattan 3.1 and Car Chase Tests 37fps, 14fps and 7.6fps respectively.
The tablet is not designed for gaming, yet I tried to play Asphalt 9: Legends in it. Default settings and pixels looked torn from the settings and texuals, but the game was being played after the frames skip. SUBWAY Surfers like casual games go well.
Oppo Pad Air has a 10.36 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2,000×1,200 pixels. In this segment, so much high resolution is rarely seen. The display is quite sharp in which text and images look good and color looks natural. Displays in outdoor do not perform well compared to indoor, as colors seem washed when going out. The cover glass is quite reflective and it is very difficult to watch movies, etc. in the direct light of the sun.
Pad Air has a Widevine L1 certification which is quite good for FullHD videos. The SD content looks quite sharp in it but there is a lot of need to improve the black level. Its quad speaker system does a lot of loud sound, it was so much that I did not miss the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Talking about its camera performance, it is below the average. The photo looks quite dull and the delite also lacks details. The 5 megapixel selfie camera brings comparatively good photos. The front camera proves good for video calls. Video recording proves very weak with a primary camera.
Since gaming was limited to ordinary games and the camera was also of no use, I used it mostly for movie, web browsing and everyday social media applications. With so many usage, the tab removes one and a half days comfortably. And if I had seen the offline movie in it, it might have taken it out for two days. In HD video loop test, Pad Air lasted 18 hours and 40 minutes which is quite impressed for the tablet. It took 2 hours and 34 minutes to fully charge its battery with 18W charger.
Our decision
The attempt to release the tablet from Oppo for the Indian market was quite good. Apart from having a budget machine, it fulfills all the requirements for daily uses and the price is also quite valid. It is lacking 4G/LTE radio, headphone jack but expandable RAM and 128GB stores complete it. Overall, if you take it to check a movie, web browsing or email, it fits the budget, but it is not made for gaming or productivity.
Unfortunately for Oppo, Realme pad With this form factor, the same specifications offers at a low price. It also has 4G/LTE variants and the price starts at Rs 15,999. Realme’s softvator experience is also better than OPO, as it has been optimized for tablets. If you can spend a little more money Lenovo Yoga Tab 11 There is also a good design and build quality. In terms of entertainment, this tab is quite ahead in which speakers are very good and are very loud for small rooms.
